The current exhibition ‘Aware: Art Fashion Identity’ at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, examines how artists and designers use clothing as a mechanism to communicate and reveal elements of our identity. The work of thirty leading international practitioners, including Grayson Perry, Yinka Shonibare and Yohji Yamamoto is on display under four sections: Storytelling, Building, Belonging and Confronting, Performance. In the Storytelling section, former fashion designer Helen Storey’s Say Goodbye dresses form part of her research into biodegradable materials: the enzyme-based textile will dissolve over time as it comes into contact with water. The show ends on 30 January 2011.
